On Sunday, November 5, the 35-year-old West Indies National Cricket Team bowling all-rounder Sunil Narine announced his retirement from international cricket.

Narine is regarded as one of the best T20 cricketers of all time and he represented the West Indies National Cricket Team across all three formats of the game. The spin bowler played 6 Tests, 65 ODIs, and 51 T20Is for the Caribbean team.

With the ball, he bagged 21 wickets in Test cricket, 92 wickets in ODI cricket, and 52 wickets in T20I cricket. Sunil Narine made his Test debut in 2012 against England in Birmingham and his last Test was against New Zealand in Hamilton in 2013.

Talking about ODIs and T20Is, Sunil Narine made his debut in 50-over cricket against India in 2011 in Ahmedabad and last represented the side in the format in 2016 against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi. Also, his debut T20I was against Australia in March 2012 and his last T20I was against India in 2019.

West Indies Star Sunil Narine Announces Retirement

Sunil Narine took to his official Instagram handle to announce his retirement from international cricket.

“I appreciate it has been over 4 years since I last played for West Indies but today I am announcing my retirement from International cricket,” the veteran spinner said in an Instagram post.

“.. I would like to acknowledge and thank Cricket West Indies, the coaching staff, passionate West Indies fans, and of course my teammates who enabled me play at the highest level, in all formats and with some memorable successes.”

Sunil Narine further informed that he will also retire from domestic 50-over competition at the end of the ongoing Super 50 Cup, but will continue to play T20 leagues.

“I am also taking this opportunity to bow out of domestic 50 over cricket. I love representing Trinidad & Tobago, the country of my birth, and to add another title by winning this current Super50 Cup will be the perfect send-off,” he added.

“Needless to say, outside of this, it will continue to be business as usual for me in the franchise world for the foreseeable future,” he added.
