The former West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine has reached another massive milestone in his already celebrated T20 career. The Trinbago Knight Riders mystery spinner Sunil Narine became only the second bowler in T20 history to complete 650 wickets on Thursday, August 27.

Narine has ruled T20 cricket for more than a decade with his mystery spin, tight bowling, and ability to perform in leagues across the world. Yet, he couldn’t surpass the Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan. Earlier, Matheesha Pathirana acquires CPL franchise.

Sunil Narine scripts stunning T20 record during CPL 2026 clash

Sunil Narine scripted the history during the Caribbean Premier League 2026 (CPL 2026) clash between the Trinbago Knight Riders and the Saint Lucia Kings at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba. It was Narine’s 611th T20 match, and he needed just one wicket to reach the massive milestone.

The mystery spinner’s historic wicket came with the last ball of the 12th over, when he trapped West Indies batter John Campbell lbw. Narine, who is known for his unique action and variations, finished the match with impressive figures of 1/27 from four overs, taking his overall T20 wicket tally to 650.

With this, Narine became only the second bowler in T20 history to complete 650 wickets. The Afghanistan superstar Rashid Khan remains the leading wicket-taker in T20 history, with 736 wickets in 547 T20 matches so far.

Rashid and Narine are followed by the former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo (631 wickets) and former South African spinner Imran Tahir (582 wickets).

Sunil Narine’s incredible numbers make him one of the greatest-ever bowlers

Meanwhile, Sunil Narine is the leading wicket-taker in Caribbean Premier League history with 137 wickets, two more than Tahir's 135. His IPL record is equally extraordinary. Since joining Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012, Narine has played 202 matches and taken 207 wickets.

He remains the only overseas player to cross 200 IPL wickets and also holds the record for the most wickets by a player for a single IPL team. He gave up the runs at an excellent economy rate of 6.79 in the IPL. The spinner took 15 wickets at an outstanding economy rate of 6.65 in the last season.

Narine will be next seen in action on August 29 when the Trinbago Knight Riders will face the Barbados Royals in the 19th match of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League 2026. Amid this, Asif Khan banned for testing positive for prohibited substance, ICC takes action.

Rashid Khan’s T20 dominance

Speaking about Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan leg-spinner has already become one of the biggest names in T20 cricket, having impressed everyone with his fast-bowling action, sharp googlies, and smart variations. At just 27, Rashid is already the leading wicket-taker in T20s.

He has played in almost every major T20 league and has continued to take wickets wherever he goes. If he maintains this level for many more years, his final numbers could be truly unbelievable.

Rashid's impact is also huge for Afghanistan. In 115 T20 internationals, he has taken 193 wickets at an excellent economy rate of 6.03. His performances have played a major role in Afghanistan becoming one of the strongest teams in the shortest format.
