Former India cricketer Suresh Raina backs Shivam Dube to be a part of India’s T20 World Cup squad along with Hardik Pandya if the all-rounder carries his dream form in the IPL 2024. Shivam Dube is currently in smoking-hot form in the ongoing series against Afghanistan. He has scored consecutive half-centuries and has also shown some of his talent with the ball in hand.

Shivam Dube smoked 63 off 32 deliveries in the second T20I to chase a target of 173 set by Afghanistan with six wickets to spare. India has already won the series with an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series with Shivam Dube smashing a half-century in both matches. India won the first T20I chasing 159 in Mohali with six wickets in hand.

During a discussion on Colors Cineplex, Raina was asked whether Dube could be a part of India’s T20 World Cup squad along with Hardik. He responded, “Absolutely, if Hardik Pandya is fit, Shivam Dube can also bat. Rohit Sharma is using him well. The IPL form will be very important. As a captain or selector, I will take in-form players, who will score runs in the two months of the IPL, which will be played in different cities.”

“This is India’s team. This is captain Rohit Sharma’s team. Rohit Sharma will definitely want in-form players and Dube has impressed a lot – not only now, but even in the entire IPL. He impressed a captain like MS Dhoni, who gave him the confidence, and Rohit Sharma has given him the same confidence,” the former India all-rounder added.

Suresh Raina lauded Shivam Dube for smashing consecutive fifties. He particularly highlighted the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player for looking to finish games, highlighting it would be a huge boost for his confidence. He has also shown some of his bowling skills in the series taking two wickets in two games.

Shivam Dube And Yashasvi Jaiswal Are Banging On Selectors’ Door

The former cricketer was also asked about the big-hitting ability of Shivam Dube. He replied, “It’s because of the bat swing. He plays the full drive. He knows that if he middles it, he will hit the ball out of the ground. He has practiced like that. When you have positive intent in your mind, both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube believe in the full drive more than the check drive.”

The cricketer-turned-commentator praised Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube for their fearless approach to batting. He said, “When you play the full drive, you get power even if you don’t middle it because you make the impact under your eyes. We saw an exhibition of the fearless batting we talked about. This is our team’s strength.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube added 92 runs for the third wicket. Jaiswal smashed 68 off 34 balls with five fours and six maximums while Shivam Dube got 63 off 32 balls hitting five fours and four sixes. India will now face Afghanistan in Bengaluru for the last T20I of this series and the Men in Blue would look for a whitewash. India is on an unbeaten streak of 15 home series wins in T20Is.

Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal are banging on the selectors’ door with these performances and they are hungry for a spot in the T20 World Cup. These two must be kept in consideration by the selectors while choosing India’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup which is scheduled in June this year.
