Ahead of Delhi Capitals opening match against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021, DC’s batting coach Ricky Ponting has spoken a lot about their opposition team CSK. Delhi Capitals will lock horns against Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday (April 10). Ponting said that Chennai Super Kings will benefit a lot after the return of Suresh Raina to the team.
The former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting also pointed that the MS Dhoni-led side has a lot of flexibility in their squad and he is still not sure who will be their openers in the match against his team Delhi Capitals. While Chennai Super Kings have an experienced skipper in the form of MS Dhoni, Delhi Capitals will be led by Rishabh Pant in IPL 2021, who is leading an IPL team for the first time.
Suresh Raina’s Return Like A New Signing For CSK, Feels Ricky Ponting
Ponting said the Chennai Super Kings had got a great leader and squad of players and Suresh Raina’s absence was the main reason behind their poor show last season.
“They have been one of the most successful teams in IPL history. They have obviously got a great leader and a great squad of players. They have always managed to play really consistent cricket. Last year they were probably disappointed with the way their season worked out,” Ricky Ponting said.
“I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that Suresh Raina wasn’t there for the entire tournament. He comes back into the squad this year which is almost like a new signing. A great player and a very experienced player that they missed last year,” Ponting Ponting added.
Don’t Know Who Will Open for CSK: Ricky Pointing
Ricky Ponting also pointed that his team has been analyzing CSK’s squad over the last week but they could not figure out who will open the batting for them. Admiring CSK’s flexibility in the squad.
“We have been looking at their squad and analyzing their squad over the last week, and they have got a good squad of players together. They have got lots of flexibility. Even now, when we have talked about it for a week, and we are still not sure who’s gonna open the batting for them. So they have got lots of options. But at the same time, we have got a great squad, and we want to build on last season.” Ricky Ponting asserted.
Chennai Super Kings finished on the 7th spot in IPL 2020 and did not qualify for playoffs. Out of the 11 seasons of CSK in the Indian Premier League, it was the first time that the team did not make it to the playoffs. Suresh Raina had opted out of the tournament citing personal reasons during IPL 2021, which was played in the UAE.
