Surrey Signs Sunil Narine For Vitality Blast 2022

Surrey County Cricket Club on Thursday signed West Indies bowling all-rounder Sunil Narine for the entire season of Vitality Blast 2022. The 33-year-old will join the club after the completion of the IPL 2022 where he will play for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Narine has played 391 T20 matches in different leagues across the globe and 51 international matches for the West Indies national cricket team in the shortest format of the game. The Trinidad & Tobago player can unsettle the batters with his bowling variations and has the ability to bat as a floater for any team.

Vitality Blast 2022: Sunil Narine to join Surrey after IPL 2022

Narine has amassed 429 wickets in T20 cricket at an economy rate of 6.4 and his best figures of 5/19 were scripted against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in an IPL 2020 encounter. The West Indies all-rounder was the first of the two overseas signings of Surrey this season.

Narine, who played for Oval Invincibles in the ECB’s inaugural Men’s Hundred, said he was thrilled to play in his first season in the Vitality Blast and targets to entertain the fans with his individual performance.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to play for Surrey in the Vitality Blast this year; one of the few competitions around the world I’ve not experienced in my career,” Narine said in a statement.

“The stint I enjoyed with Oval Invincibles in 2021 gave me a taste of how unique playing in front of a packed Kia Oval crowd really is. My aim is to entertain as much as possible this year and hopefully ensure the Club challenges for the trophy,” he added. 

Narine was one of the four players KKR retained ahead of the IPL 2022 auction. With 161 wickets in 143 matches, Narine is the leading wicket-taker of KKR in the IPL and was part of their victorious titles in 2012 & 2014.
