Manoj Tiwary, while speaking with Cricbuzz, said, "The range of shots that we saw from Surya, we say AB de Villiers is the 360-degree player, but for me, he is the one true 360-degree player."

"I have never seen AB de Villiers slice and score a six over third man, but Surya has scored that shot in the IPL, and he showed that only he can play that shot. Shot selection was not easy on that surface, but he showed how effective he was."

Former India spinner Murali Kartik, also heappraised Surya on Cricbuzz, saying, "The only reason India scored 161 was Suryakumar Yadav. The faith that the team had in him, despite his poor form last year, but class is permanent. At one point, it did not even seem like 140- 150 would be scored."
