Suryakumar Yadav has delivered an update on his ankle injury. Team India’s brilliant win over South Africa in the third T20I on Thursday (December 14) turned a bit sour due to the injury sustained by their captain.
In the first half of the game, the right-handed batsman starred with the bat and scored a sensational century to help Team India post a 200-plus total in the do-or-die clash. Asked to bat first, India were reeling at 29 for 2 in the third over after losing the wickets of Shubman Gill (8) and Tilak Varma (0).
The captain then led from the very front to guide the team to an imposing total of 201 for 7. With the team in a precarious situation, he did not go all out from the start. In the first 29 balls, he had scored 35 runs before shifting gears and smashing 65 runs in the next 26 balls to complete his fourth T20I century in 55 balls.
His 56-ball knock was studded with seven fours and eight sixes. In reply, South Africa’s innings lasted less than 14 overs as they were bowled out for a paltry total of 95 runs. David Miller (35) was the only player who touched the 30-run mark during the poor batting display from the Proteas. For India, left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5 for 17.
Suryakumar Yadav delivers update on injury:
The second half of the game did not really begin on a good note for Team India. In the very third over, Suryakumar Yadav suffered an ankle injury while running backwards. He twisted his ankle and walked off the field straightaway to receive treatment. The Mumbai star was seen wincing in pain while receiving the treatment.
He did not field for the rest of the innings. Later, he hobbled his way up to the post-match presentation ceremony and delivered a promising update. Disclosing that the injury was not serious, Suryakumar Yadav said:
“I am good. I am able to walk so it is not looking that serious.”
“It was wonderful scoring a hundred, and especially when it comes in a winning cause. One box we wanted to tick was play fearless brand of cricket. Really happy the boys showed a lot of character. Kuldeep is never happy with a three-for or a four-for. A perfect self birthday present,” he added.
