Indian batter Shreyas Iyer was admitted to the ICU in the Sydney hospital and has been reported stable by Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav. He has also confirmed that he is in constant touch with Shreyas, who is answering the texts from his teammates.

Shreyas Iyer was ruled out due to injury after he landed awkwardly, injuring his rib cage while he ran backward towards the backward point to take the catch of Alex Carey. The medical staff of the Indian team immediately rushed to help Shreyas off the ground.

It was reported that Shreyas has not suffered from a bone fracture, but he had a laceration to the spleen due to which he was admitted into the ICU at Sydney and was kept under observation, only to recover from his internal bleeding.

Suryakumar Yadav provides the latest update on Shreyas Iyer's injury status

Shreyas Iyer is stable and is out of danger, as per the Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav. Speaking at the pre-match conference on Tuesday, the Indian T20I captain provided the latest update on Iyer's injury.

When asked about the updates on the player, the captain said that he was stable and was replying to test messages that he had been sending him. Though, he revealed that Iyer is expected to remain under observation for a few more days.

"The first day, when I got to know that he was injured, I called him. I got to know that he did not have his phone. So, I called the physio and he told me that he was stable. On day one, you cannot be sure of anything," said Suryakumar Yadav at the press conference.

Shreyas Iyer is brought out of the ICU

Shreyas Iyer has been brought out from the ICU, since he has recovered from the injury and would likely be released very soon to depart for India. However, despite being released from the ICU, he is yet to be discharged from the Sydney hospital.

"I have been talking to him over the last two days, and he has been replying on the phone. If he is replying, it means that he is stable. He is looking good; the doctors are with him. But he will be under supervision for the next few days. But he has been replying, so that is good," Suryakumar Yadav said ahead of the opening T20I.

Gautam Gambhir backs the Indian T20I skipper amid a lack of form

Gautam Gambhir has supported the 'free-spirited' off-field personality of the Indian T20I skipper and has said that his adoption of this form of gameplay has given the other youngsters in the team the freedom to play their game.

On Monday, coach Gautam Gambhir backed the T20 skipper. “Honestly, Surya’s batting form doesn’t concern me because we have committed to an ultra-aggressive template in our dressing room. When you embrace this philosophy, failures are inevitable,” he said during a discussion on JioHotstar.
