Suryakumar Yadav gets STRICT warning to perform in Australia T20Is

Despite having led India to successive wins in bilateral series in the shortest format of the game and winning the Asia Cup trophy, Suryakumar Yadav has been facing criticism due to his poor batting form in international cricket.
Suryakumar Yadav, one of the finest T20I batters from India, who broke several records of Virat Kohli, only to be dethroned by Abhishek Sharma in 2025, has lacked form since taking over captaincy.
India's Mr. 360 degree has had a drought of runs, and despite his best IPL season with the bat coming in IPL 2025, Suryakumar Yadav has failed to bring out the same impact on the international front. SKY is likely to continue as India's skipper till the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 and is expected to show some form.
Suryakumar Yadav averages less than 15 in T20Is in 2025
Suryakumar Yadav has not continued his form in T20Is ever since he was handed the T20I captaincy. Ahead of that, he was India's highest run-getter annually in the shortest format since his debut and was also the most promising batter in the T20 World Cup 2024 alongside Rohit Sharma.
However, ever since he took over the captaincy from Rohit, his numbers have not been great. He has registered just 330 runs with only 2 half-centuries to his name. With India's dominating performance and their hostility toward Pakistan during the Asia Cup, SKY's poor run went unnoticed.
Suryakumar Yadav played in 7 matches in the Asia Cup and could manage only 72 runs throughout the tournament. Throughout the entire 2025 season, he could manage to score 100 runs off 11 innings with a strike rate of just 105.26.
"It's important that Surya finds form for the team," said Parthiv Patel
Ahead of the first T20I, which begins tomorrow in the Capital city of Canberra, former wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel stated that the need of the hour is for Suryakumar Yadav to find form and score as many runs as possible so that India can take the upper hand over the Aussies early on in the series.
"More than the personal thing, I feel that it's important that Surya finds form for the team. Basically, we know what he can do as a batter; if he gets runs, he can completely destroy the opposition. So from that point of view, I feel that if Surya gets some runs, it will be very helpful for the team," said JioStar expert Parthiv during a select media interaction on Tuesday, as quoted by Hindustan Times.
"You just have to get used to the conditions and keep backing yourself," said Parthiv on the Australia tour
Former Indian wicket-keeper batter Parthiv Patel stated that India don't need to change their approach, as they have been playing some fantastic cricket over the past few years; it is just that they should set the standard based on the conditions for the T20I series in Australia.
"I don't think India needs to change their approach at all. You change your approach, or you try to rectify something if it has gone wrong. So to me, I think India is playing fantastic cricket in the last 2-3 years, especially in this format. So I don't see India needs to change anything. I know the conditions are different. You just have to get used to the conditions and keep backing yourself," said Parthiv.
"When you are playing in Australia, obviously, the new ball seems to swing a little more than it did before. But another thing is that this team is playing in South Africa with the same approach. They have also performed well there. So that adjustment is only of the bounce. I am sure this Indian team is as prepared as you can see that adjustment," he added.
