Suryakumar Yadav in his own league!! MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma captaincy records shattered

Suryakumar Yadav-led India started their campaign in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 in style as the defending champions thrashed the UAE by 9 wickets in Dubai. It was a one-sided affair as the defending champions completely outplayed the home side.

Batting first, the UAE were bowled out for a paltry total of 57 runs inside 14 overs. With openers Alishan Sharafu and Muhammad Waseem adding 26 runs for the opening wicket, UAE were off to a decent start. However, things took a turn for the worse when the opening partnership was broken.

The first wicket opened the floodgates, and the UAE kept losing wickets at regular intervals. They were on 47/2 at one stage before losing eight wickets for just 10 runs. Barring Sharafu (22) and Waseem (19), no other UAE player could score more than 3.

India destroysthe UAE

For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the destructor-in-chief, taking 4 wickets for just 7 runs in 2.1 overs. Allrounder Shivam Dube impressed with the ball as well, taking 3 wickets for just 4 runs in 2 overs.

In reply, India chased down the total in just 4.3 overs. Abhishek Sharma gave the champions a flying start by hitting the first two balls of the chase for a six and a four.

He scored 30 runs before being dismissed by Junaid Siddique with 10 runs needed. Shubman Gill and Suryakumar then ensured India crossed the line without any more hiccups.

Suryakumar Yadav creates history:

The win over the UAE helped India captain Suryakumar Yadav create history. The right-handed batsman broke his predecessor Rohit Sharma's record of having the highest win percentage by an Indian captain in T20Is.

Suryakumar Yadav now has a win percentage of 82.6 as a captain in the shortest format of the game. On the other hand, Rohit had a win percentage of 80.6

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav was absolutely delighted after India's thumping win over the UAE. Speaking at the end of the match, the captain said:

"Clinical performance from the boys, we wanted good attitude and energy on the field, and that's what we got. Recently lot of the boys were here for the Champions Trophy, the wicket looked good, but it was on the slower side, and the spinners have a role. Here it is very hot right now, and Kuldeep did well, got good support from Hardik, Dube, and Bumrah."

India's next match is against Pakistan. The high-profile clash is set to take place on September 14.
