India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav can make a comeback in Test cricket. The 33-year-old will play for Mumbai in the upcoming Buchi Babu Tournament, which will be held in Tamil Nadu.

It is believed that the selectors and the team management have indicated that they were looking at Surya as an all-format player.

Even Suryakumar stated to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that he would be available for the Buchi Babu Tournament. As a result, he was selected in Mumbai's squad.

Suryakumar Yadav set to audition for red-ball cricket in upcoming domestic tournaments

Not only in the Buchi Babu Tournament, Suryakumar Yadav has also found a place in one of the squads Duleep Trophy 2024. The tournament will begin on September 5 with many prominent international players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Ruturaj Gaikwad to feature.

After returning from his first stint as India's full-time T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav expressed his desire to play Test cricket as well.

The fact that he has been selected for the Duleep Trophy means that the selectors are considering him for the upcoming Tests.

Surya will play for Team C in the Duleep Trophy 2024 under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad. India is set to play five Tests at home before touring Australia in November 2024.

Two of those five home Tests will be played against Bangladesh while three Tests will be against New Zealand.

Suryakumar Yadav's recent record

Suryakumar has played just one Test match so far, against Australia in Nagpur last year. However, he was dismissed for just 8 runs in the only innings India batted in the match. Since then, he hasn't been considered for the longest format anymore.

The last few months have been great for Suryakumar Yadav. He played a key role in India's T20 World Cup 2024 win with brilliant performances with the bat and on the field.

Afterward, he was appointed India's full-time T20I captain after the retirement of Rohit Sharma from the format.

In his first assignment as India's T20I captain, Suryakumar was impressive. He scored runs with the bat and was also proactive as a leader. As a result, India blanked Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20I series.

Shreyas Iyer also aiming for a Test comeback

Meanwhile, another India batter Shreyas Iyer also made himself available for the Buchi Babu tournament. Iyer is a regular member of India's ODI line-up just like Suryakumar is for T20Is.

Iyer was a part of India's Test team as well before getting dropped in the home series against England earlier this year due to poor form. He will be aiming for a fresh start and win his place back in India's Test team.

Sarfaraz Khan is another Indian batter who will play in the Buchi Babu Tournament. Sarfaraz has been appointed Mumbai's captain for the tournament and will lead a star-studded Mumbai team.

However, the 26-year-old will be aiming to get big scores in the tournament as he is also in the fray for India's upcoming home Tests. Sarfaraz has also been selected to play in the Duleep Trophy, where he will play for Team B.

Sarfaraz played India's last three Tests. He has scored 200 runs at an average of 50 in Test cricket but is yet not guaranteed a place because of KL Rahul's possible comeback.

However, if he performs well in the Buchi Babu Tournament and Duleep Trophy, he will be in with a chance to be selected for the upcoming home season.
