Suryakumar Yadav offered KKR captaincy before IPL 2025, Shreyas Iyer to be sacked

India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is one of the top T20 players in the world. Surya was always a brilliant batter in T20 cricket as he has shown tremendous improvement over the years. He is currently the No. 2 batter in the ICC T20I Batting rankings.

But now since he is India's T20I captain as well, his value has gone up several notches. Suryakumar has got limited captaincy opportunities in his career so far but has proved that he has the credentials to do the job.

He was Mumbai Indians' vice-captain when Rohit Sharma was the team's captain. But the arrival of Hardik Pandya into the fold changed everything. The team management overlooked Surya, who was initially considered MI's next captain after Rohit, and appointed Pandya as the captain for IPL 2024.

But Hardik's poor season in 2024 has raised several questions. It remains to be seen whether Mumbai will change its tactics and remove Hardik from his role after just one poor season.

Suryakumar Yadav to rejoin KKR for IPL 2025 as captain? Here's what the reports say

According to the journalist Rohit Juglan, Suryakumar Yadav has received an unofficial offer from Kolkata Knight Riders to come back and rejoin his old team and lead the side. Reports suggest that KKR might swap Shreyas Iyer, their current captain who led the team to the title in IPL 2024, for Suryakumar.

But it remains to be seen whether Suryakumar Yadav wants to go back to KKR or not. Suryakumar's value has gone several notches up since he is now India's captain as well. He was also a part of India's team that clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 title.

It all depends on what Suryakumar Yadav and Mumbai Indians decide now. With not much time left for the mega0-auction MI will have to make a big decision that could possibly decide their future as well.

Suryakumar Yadav's IPL record

Suryakumar started his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir. He was a part of KKR's IPL-winning squad in 2014. But he was traded to Mumbai Indians in exchange for Nitish Rana.

Surya's performance in Mumbai Indians gradually kept improving as he became a beast in IPL cricket. He batted mostly at the top order and MI a no. of matches with his ability to score runs all around the ground. He has scored 3594 runs in 150 IPL matches so far at an average of 32.28 and a strike rate of 145.33.

In his first series as full-time India captain, Suryakumar Yadav led India to a brilliant 3-0 series win over Sri Lanka. His next assignment will be India's T20I series against Bangladesh.
