Suryakumar Yadav reacts to Harshit Rana being named in India ODI squad out of the blue

India's T20I and ODI squads for the tour of Sri Lanka have sprung out a few surprises. One of them was the maiden ODI call-up for the fast bowler Harshit Rana. Rana has been performing exceedingly well over the past few months.

The youngster had a brilliant IPL and was expected to be in India's T20I plans soon. But instead, the fast bowler got a place in the ODI squad. As a result, he expressed his happiness on social media along with his father. Meanwhile, India's new T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has posted a heart-touching reaction to Harshit Rana's post.

Suryakumar Yadav's heart-touching reaction to Harshit Rana's maiden ODI call-up

After the announcement of the squad, Harshit Rana expressed his happiness by lifting his father. The 22-year-old posted a picture with his father on Instagram with the caption, "This BELONGS to you…❤️🫂 LOVE YOU DAD🧿🫶."

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav was mesmerized by seeing the bonding between a son and a father and replied to the post, "Wowwww what a sight 😍🧿."

The whole conversation in the post was posted by the Kolkata Knight Riders on X (formerly Twitter). Harshit Rana is a fast bowler who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In IPL 2024, Rana played a key role in KKR's title win and finished as the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 19 wickets in 13 matches.

Memorable day for Suryakumar Yadav

Meanwhile, it was a memorable day for Suryakumar Yadav as well. The middle-order batter was appointed India's new T20I captain after Rohit Sharma. Rohit retired from the T20I format after India's T20 World Cup 2024 win. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja are the other senior players who also announced their retirements.

Earlier, it was assumed that Hardik Pandya, who was the vice-captain in T20 World Cup 2024, will replace Rohit as India's next T20I captain. But Hardik's injury concerns and workload management forced the selectors to choose Surya for the role. Hardik Pandya is selected in the T20I team just as a player.

Suryakumar Yadav's first assignment will be India's white-ball tour of Sri Lanka where they will play three T20Is and three ODIs. After the announcement of India's new T20I captain, Surya's childhood coach Ashok Aswalkar also expressed his happiness and said that he is proud of him.

"I had messaged him in the afternoon saying that you would get a big message today, and in the evening, when we heard the news, I felt very proud... I feel very happy. Captaincy is a slightly different role. He played in the World Cup 2024 with great players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. By playing with such great cricketers, we get to learn a lot," Aswalkar was quoted as saying by TOI.
