India National Cricket Team T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav has faced a major injury scare amid his ambitions of a Test return. As per the reports, it is learned that the batter might even be ruled out of the Duleep Trophy 2024.
Suryakumar Yadav faced a hand injury during the game against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI in the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament. Although the seriousness of the injury isn’t known, clouds are hovering over his participation in the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024.
Suryakumar faced injury during the third day of the match while fielding in TNCA XI's second innings. The Indian T20I skipper was fielding at leg slip and it was where he faced a hand injury, which didn't look great as he was in immense pain after the blow.
Musheer Khan bowled a leg-stump delivery to Tamil Nadu batter Pradosh Ranjan Paul and flicked it towards Suryakumar Yadav at leg slip, where Suryakumar Yadav was stationed. The Indian skipper tried to stop the ball but it struck on the hand by the bouncing ball.
As he was hit by the ball, Suryakumar winced in pain and shook his hand. He held his injured hand tightly as he seemed to be in immense pain. The physios ran out to treat him but he still looked in pain. The right-hander then was forced to leave the field and didn’t field on Day 3.
Suryakumar then didn’t come to bat in the Mumbai’s second innings. He managed just 30 runs in the first innings. The team managed just 223 runs in the second innings and faced a defeat by 286 runs. They had a poor outing with batting first innings, where they got all out for just 156 runs.
So far there hasn’t been any official confirmation related to the injury of Suryakumar. The Mumbai Cricket Association hasn’t provided any update about the seriousness of the injury. It remains to be seen if he will be able to participate in the Duleep Trophy.
Suryakumar Yadav keen to make India Test comeback
Suryakumar was recently named as the Indian captain for the T20I team. He took the charge after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game after leading the team to the win in the T20 World Cup 2024, ending India’s 11-year-long title drought.
However, despite being seen as a T20 specialist, Suryakumar Yadav recently expressed his strong desire to make a comeback in the Test team. He said that he wants to play for the India National Cricket Team in the longest format of the game.
Suryakumar has played one Test for the India National Cricket Team. He made his debut against the Australia National Cricket Team but couldn't set the stage on fire. If fit, he would want to make a massive impact in the Duleep Trophy 2024 to make his case strong for the India Test team, which will be involved in around 10 Tests in the next few months.
