Former India opener and 1983 World Cup-winning player Kris Srikkanth criticized captain Suryakumar Yadav for his batting form during the Asia Cup 2025. Srikkanth described Yadav’s recent scores as “like a pin code” and expressed concern over his consistency in the recently concluded tournament.
Suryakumar struggled with the bat throughout the Asia Cup 2025. He scored 72 runs at an average of 18 and a strike rate below 102. However, India remained unbeaten, winning all seven matches. The right-handed batter played one notable innings of an unbeaten 47 against Pakistan in the group stage.
Suryakumar Yadav's Scores Are Like a Pin Code These Days - Kris Srikkanth
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kris Srikkanth stated that Suryakumar Yadav let him down with his poor form. The former batter stated that Suryakumar’s form is very concerning for the team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.
"Suryakumar Yadav let me down. His scores are like a PIN code these days. Both batting lineups had several pin codes with Pakistan being much worse of course. But yes, Surya's form is very concerning, along with Shubman Gill," Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
Suryakumar Yadav has struggled with the bat in 2025. He scored only 100 runs in 11 innings at an average of 11.11, with a best score of 47. The middle-order batter recorded a series of low scores of 0, 5, 12, and 1 in the last four Asia Cup matches.
Shubman Gill Wasn't Even in My Team During the Initial Selection - Kris Srikkanth
Kris Srikkanth also expressed doubts about Shubman Gill’s impact in T20 cricket. Srikkanth said that Gill hasn’t been impressive in the shortest format and that he can't make the selection for the World Cup.
"Shubman Gill doesn't look very deadly in the T20 format. He is fantastic in Tests and ODIs. Though they made him the vice-captain, with the World Cup coming up, we have to see what they do with him. He wasn't even in my team during the initial selection. But they made him the vice-captain as well," Srikkanth added.
Shubman Gill’s inclusion at the top of the batting order broke the successful partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. However, Gill scored just 127 runs in seven matches at an average of 21.16 and a strike rate of 151.19.
This Team Is Not the Right One for the T20 World Cup - Kris Srikkanth
The former chief selector stated that the squad is well-balanced for the T20 World Cup. Srikkanth noted that it was sufficient against weaker teams in the Asia Cup but might struggle against stronger opposition. He was also unhappy with the use of just one pacer in the playing XI for most matches.
"This team is not the right one for the T20 World Cup. It was enough for the below average sides in this tournament. But if we play with this team in the T20 World Cup, it'll be curtains for us," said Srikkanth.
India mostly relied on just one specialist pacer in their playing XI. The Men in Blue have won 35 of their last 38 games. They will enter the T20 World Cup as defending champions, having clinched the title in the West Indies and USA last year.
