A decade-old bond between the former India captain Suryakumar Yadav and Parsee Gymkhana has formally come to an end as the 2026 World Cup-winning captain has moved to MIG Cricket Club for Mumbai’s local tournaments ahead of a new season. Yadav spent 12 long years with the Parsee Gymkhana club before joining the MIC Cricket Club.
The transition process has already been completed, and Yadav is all set to play for his new team. He made this move after being dropped from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy 2026-27 squad. MIC Cricket Club informs that the experienced batter will lead the team in the upcoming season.
Suryakumar Yadav left Parsee Gymkhana to join MIC Cricket Club
Amit Dani, a former Mumbai player and the cricket secretary of MIC Cricket Club, has told Mumbai Mirror that Suryakumar Yadav will play for their club from this season as the captain. Yadav agreed to the club's proposal to lead the team.
“Surya will play for MIG CC from this season. We wanted him to lead our team, and he has agreed. He will make his debut for us in an MCA President’s Cup match at MIG CC on Sunday,” told Mumbai Mirror on Friday.
Dani further mentioned that their first match in this season will be on Saturday, in an MCA President’s Cup match against Sainath Cricket Club. But Suryakumar Yadav will not be available for the match as the batter is currently engaged in red-ball preparations.
“We play our first MCA President’s Cup match against Sainath Cricket Club on Saturday, but Surya will miss that game as he is undergoing red-ball match simulation,” Dani said.
Mumbai dropped Suryakumar Yadav from Ranji Trophy 2026-27 squad
Mumbai announced the Ranji Trophy squad for the upcoming season without mentioning Suryakumar Yadav, which came as a shocker. While the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), in its explanation, claimed that the batter is not entirely out of the selection process, the cricket management authority also raised concerns about the fact that Yadav has not played in the red-ball format for a long time.
The squad can be changed after the first couple of matches. So, the former India captain still has chances to take the ground for the Mumbai cricket team. But ahead of that, he will have to prepare himself according to multi-day match stipulations.
2026 is testing Suryakumar Yadav hard
The year 2026 so far has been very significant for the middle-order batter. From winning the T20 World Cup as the India captain to being dropped from the team soon after the event, all of that happened within a very short time span in his career. It was reported that the selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar, dropped him from the T20I squad because of his poor form with the bat.
When Yadav was an aspiring cricketer, Parsee Gymkhana played a vital role in shaping and nurturing his talent. As he has entered a fresh chapter of his career, the 36-year-old shifted his local base. The upcoming domestic season is going to be crucial for the batter.
