The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is considering disciplinary action against Indian players, led by Suryakumar Yadav, after they refused to shake hands with the Pakistan team in the Asia Cup 2025. ACC may take action against the players, and fines or other penalties could be imposed once the review is complete.

India secured a seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in their second Asia Cup 2025 match at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. The Men in Blue chased down the target of 128 runs with seven wickets and 25 balls to spare. Kuldeep Yadav, who took 3 wickets for 18 runs, was named Player of the Match.

The Pakistan players, led by Salman Ali Agha, waited outside the Indian dressing room, but no Indian player came out. The Men in Blue closed the door, leaving Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson frustrated.

Salman Ali Agha also skipped the post-match interview. Suryakumar dedicated India’s win to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians in April. In response, India launched military action, Operation Sindoor, against the terrorist camps in Pakistan and POK in May.

“We stand with the victims of the Pahalgam attack and their families. We dedicate today’s win to our armed forces,” Suryakumar said.

ACC Considers Action After Suryakumar Yadav's India Skip Handshakes With Pakistan

Pakistan team manager Naveed Akram Cheema filed a formal complaint with match referee Andy Pycroft, describing India’s refusal to shake hands as “a violation of sportsmanship.”

According to CricketPakistan.com, the incident has drawn the attention of the Asian Cricket Council, which is reportedly reviewing the situation and may consider disciplinary action against the Indian team.

"The controversy has now drawn the attention of the ACC, which is weighing possible disciplinary action against the Indian team."

Before the match began, Suryakumar Yadav avoided shaking hands with Salman Ali Agha, who won the toss and chose to bat first in the Asia Cup 2025 encounter.

With India and Pakistan likely to meet again in the Super Four stage or possibly the final, it will be interesting to see how the Asian Cricket Council manages the situation to keep politics separate from the game.

Suryakumar Yadav Hadn't Scored Many Runs in T20Is This Year

Before the Asia Cup 2025, Suryakumar Yadav had struggled in T20Is this year. The right-handed batter scored just 82 runs across seven innings at an average of 16.40. However, he scored 717 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 167.91 during IPL 2025. He was the second-highest run scorer of the season.

Suryakumar scored an unbeaten 47 off 37 balls, with the help of five boundaries and one maximum, in the match against Pakistan. The Indian skipper finished the chase with the match-winning shot over midwicket off Sufiyan Muqeem. Notably, it was also his first T20I score above 15 runs this year.
