Suryakumar Yadav to make ODI comeback in the Australian tour

Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav took over the captaincy of the Indian side after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game. He has led by example, as SKY has won every series since taking over as the captain of the Indian team.

Suryakumar Yadav recently led India in the Asia Cup 2025, as the Men in Blue maintained a winning streak throughout the competition. This was India's first multinational trophy win under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav.

Although Suryakumar Yadav has experienced a recent dip in form in the Asia Cup, he has received severe criticism for his weak performance; however, he is being considered for his ODI comeback in the upcoming series against Australia.

Rohit Sharma is all set to lead India in the Australia ODIs

After Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the longest format of the game this summer, he is expected to return to the Indian side alongside teammate Virat Kohli. The two players have not played in India's colours since the ICC Champions Trophy in February-March.

However, there have been speculations that Rohit might not be considered to play the ODI format as well, since India is all set to prepare for the next World Cup to be held in 2027. Considering the former skipper's age and fitness, the Indian selectors are doubtful about his ability to feature in the 2027 ICC World Cup.

The defining point of the selection remains the captaincy for the ODIs, especially if Rohit Sharma is retained as captain. Rohit has cleared his fitness Tests back at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

Shubman Gill to be part of the ODI squad; Uncertain for T20Is

Shubman Gill, who led India in the Test series following the exit of the two veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, is all set to lead the Indian ODI side in future events if the Indian management considers dropping the likes of Rohit from the India captaincy.

Gill has also extended his stay on the no. 1 spot of the ICC Men's ODI Batting Rankings. This ODI series in Australia will be India's as well as Shubman Gill's first 50-over game since the Champions Trophy in February.
