Suryansh Shedge officially replaces Nitish Kumar Reddy for UK tour

The Mumbai and Punjab Kings all-rounder Suryansh Shedge has officially replaced Nitish Kumar Reddy in India squads for the upcoming T20I series against the Ireland National Cricket Team and England National Cricket Team.

Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I matches against the Irish and English teams due to his quadriceps injury.

Suryansh Shedge receives a call-up on the back of his heroics for India A in the recently concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka, as well as his stunning performances for Mumbai and Punjab Kings.

"Nitish reported left quadriceps discomfort after the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20. Following a subsequent medical assessment, the BCCI Medical Team has recommended a period of rehabilitation, ruling him out of both T20I series," the BCCI stated.

When did Nitish Kumar Reddy receive the injury?

BCCI has provided details about the injury of the promising pace bowling all-rounder, who was an integral part of the India vs Afghanistan 3-match ODI series. The board in the official press release informs that Reddy felt discomfort during the third of the three-match ODI contest against Afghanistan. Because of the seriousness of the injury and for precautionary measures, the medical team has advised the board to keep Nitish Kumar Reddy on rest for a while.

The sudden injury could be a major blow for both Reddy and the team management as the emerging all-rounder had gained some momentum with improved bowling. In the absence of the experienced pace bowling all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy emerged as the replacement for him, ahead of the UK tour. As Reddy has prior experience in playing under overseas conditions and in the particular format, he could have added more value to the team during the T20Is against England.

Why has the board picked Suryansh Shedge in place of Reddy?

Suryansh Shedge in place of Nitish Kumar Reddy is a like for like substitunion. Like Reddy, Shedge is also a seam bowling all-rounder. Though in the Indian Premier League, the 23-year-old played for the Punjab Kings mostly as a batter. He played for the Kings during the IPL 2025 and IPL 2026 seasons, mostly as a batter.

In 7 matches and 7 innings for the Punjab Kings during the 2026 season, he scored 158 runs for a batting average of 39.50 and a strike rate of 175.55. Overall, he played 12 matches so far with Punjab in two IPL seasons, and bowled in only one innings, where he led runs with an economy rate of 13.33.

For India A, during the recently concluded tri-nation series, he bowled on a regular basis and caught wickets as well. Suryansh Shedge scored 147 runs in his previous five matches with India A.
