Vaibhav Sooryavanshi remained on the bench throughout the Ireland series. He watched Suryansh Shedge and Prince Yadav make their debut in the T20Is, which could be a little bit disheartening for a 15-year-old, but Vaibhav is built with different mettle.
Ahead of India’s first match against England on Wednesday, the emerging batter was spotted sweating in the nets with the same intention and dedication he showed previously. Suryansh Shedge, who made his T20I debut a few days ago, says that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi carries an unreal mindset, which is very rare to find.
Suryansh Shedge explains Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's thought process
India’s tour of the United Kingdom gained most of the hype because of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who had displayed one after another stormy knocks, showcasing his ability to take on world-class bowlers for maximums.
Whether it was with the Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals or India A, the results were the same: raining sixes from Vaibhav’s willow.
Arguably, he is currently the best big hitter in the T20 format of cricket across the globe. Cricket fans across the globe are excited to see the budding opener batting for the senior national cricket team. If he makes his Team India debut at the age of only 15, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will break legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record.
"Incredible mentality:" Suryansh Shedge on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Shedge said that Vaibhav has a great mindset and can back himself even after being dismissed for zero. He is kind of a batter who has immense trust and confidence in his batting, and he knows his unique method will work against the bowlers.
“His (Vaibhav Sooryavanshi) mentality is incredible. He genuinely enjoys batting and never overcomplicates things. He has such supreme belief in his ability that even if he gets out for a duck, he doesn't let it affect him. He backs himself to score a hundred off 30 balls in the next game,” Suryansh Shedge told JioHotstar.
“That kind of self-belief is rare. He doesn't carry any baggage from the previous delivery or the previous match; he lives in the moment and plays with complete freedom. That is what makes him so dangerous. He is the perfect example of being instinctive and playing without fear," he added.
Suryansh Shedge made his T20I debut vs Ireland
Suryansh Shedge’s Team India debut was quick. He already shares a close bond with the captain, Shreyas Iyer, because of the Punjab Kings connection. Both of them play for the Punjab Kings in the IPL, so they know each other very well.
Ahead of the first T20I against England in Durham, the emerging all-rounder said that he talked a lot with Shreyas Iyer and spent a lot of time together off the field as well. He also claimed that during the IPL season, they used to discuss opponents’ playing style as well to set their own game plan.
"I talk a lot with Shreyas Iyer bhai. We spend a lot of time together off the field as well. We are constantly talking about cricket-discussing batting, bowling, match situations, and how to handle pressure. During the IPL season, we watch other games together and discuss what we would do in those scenarios. Those conversations are always healthy and continuous. It helps me learn a lot from his experience," he added.
