Former Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev has reckoned that India should not depend on the other team’s results to make it to the Semi-final stages and wanted changes in the team set-up as well. India has lost their first two games in a row in their campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021, and now the hopes of making it to the semi-finals for the Indian team are not in their hands anymore.

India hasn’t been able to win an ICC tournament for a long time now, and the last time it happened was in the 2013 Champions trophy. They have got close to winning at times, but so far, it hasn’t been good for the Indian side in the 2021 T20 World cup. India still has a slim chance of making it to the semi-finals, however, greats like Kapil Dev had never wanted India to go through from other team’s results.

Kapil Dev Feels It Is Better To Depend On Other Teams

Kapil Dev felt that Indian cricket would not be happy even if they progress to the semi-finals on the back of other teams’ performances. He added that the selectors should take a call on the big names as well, considering the future.

“If we succeed on the basis of some other teams, Indian cricket has never appreciated it. If you want to win the World Cup, or reach the semi-finals, do it on your own strengths. It is better not to depend on other teams. I guess the selectors will have to decide the future of the big names and the big players,” Kapil Dev told ABP News.

The BCCI Needs To Intervene – Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev mentioned that the youngsters should be given a go looking at their performances in the IPL so that India could prepare them for the coming years. He added that the big players facing criticism are not ideal, and BCCI should look into the matter.

“They need to think whether the youngsters who are performing well in the IPL, is it time to give them a chance? How do we make the next generation better? If they lose, there is no harm because they will gain experience.

“But if these big players don’t perform now and play such bad cricket, there is going to be plenty of criticism. The BCCI needs to intervene and think about bringing more youngsters in,” he added.
