T20 World Cup 2024: Bangladesh Squad announced; Najmul Hossain Shanto to lead the side

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has unveiled the 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, set to be played in the West Indies and the USA. Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead Bangladesh in the marquee tournament, with Taskin Ahmed serving as his deputy.
Bangladesh showcased dominance in their last series against Zimbabwe at home. Najmul Hossain Shanto led the team to victory in the first four matches before suffering a loss in the final match. Following the conclusion of the series, the selectors named the Bangladesh World Cup squad.
Shakib Al-Hasan, Mahmudullah Return For T20 World Cup
Shakib Al-Hasan has returned to the Bangladesh squad for the T20 World Cup. The veteran all-rounder will bring depth and stability to the team in the World Cup. The left-handed batter has been part of the national team in every T20 tournament since its inception in 2007.
Mahmudullah is also included in the squad. The 38-year-old made a comeback during the home series against Sri Lanka in March after being absent from the T20I side since September 2022. Mahmudullah earned his place in the World Cup following his impressive performances.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib secured his spot in the squad after impressing in two matches against Zimbabwe. Shoriful Islam, who was rested for the final two matches against Zimbabwe, also made the cut. Afif Hossain Dhrubo and Hasan Mahmud are named as reserves for the event.
Mustafizur Rahman will lead Bangladesh's pace bowling attack, comprising Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib. The squad features three spin bowling options, Mahedi Hasan, Tanvir Islam, and Rishad Hossain, alongside the experienced Shakib Al Hasan.
Taskin Ahmed sustained an injury before the fifth T20I against Zimbabwe. The 29-year-old performed well in the series, taking eight wickets in four matches with an impressive economy rate of 4.56. The selectors are optimistic about his recovery for the upcoming tournament.

Bangladesh's Schedule For The 2024 T20 World Cup
Bangladesh is placed in Group D, alongside Sri Lanka, South Africa, the Netherlands, and Nepal. They will kick off their campaign against Sri Lanka on June 7 in Dallas, followed by a match against South Africa on June 10 in New York. They will face the Netherlands and Nepal on June 13 and 16, respectively.
