T20 World Cup 2024: KL Rahul OUT, Shubman Gill DROPPED!! Wasim Jaffer lists India squad

As several cricket experts are unveiling their picks for India's squad in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has revealed his 15-member squad. Wasim Jaffer excluded players like KL Rahul and Axar Patel, despite their notable performances in the IPL 2024.

The selection committee chairman, Ajit Agarkar, is reportedly in Delhi to meet with skipper Rohit Sharma before finalizing the squad for the upcoming ICC tournament in June this year. The selectors are expected to announce the Indian squad in the coming days, with the deadline set for May 1.

Wasim Jaffer Picks India's Squad For T20 World Cup 2024

Wasim Jaffer took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to unveil the squad for the tournament. The former opener picked Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal as openers in the squad. Jaffer named Jaiswal in the squad despite his lackluster IPL season. He picked Virat Kohli for No. 3 in the lineup.

Suryakumar Yadav holds the No. 4 position in the squad. The former cricketer selected Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant as designated wicketkeeper batters for the World Cup team. Both Pant and Samson have shown exceptional form with the bat during the ongoing T20 tournament.

KL Rahul Misses Out on Selection in Wasim Jaffer's Squad

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper failed to make it into Wasim Jaffer's squad. The right-handed batter has amassed 378 runs at an average of 42 and a strike rate of 144.27. However, his competitors Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson delivered better performances than him.

Pant, leading the Delhi Capitals (DC), has amassed 371 runs at an average of 46.38 and a strike rate of 160.60. Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper has scored 385 runs at an average of 77 and a strike rate of 161.09. It will be interesting to see who will be picked by the selectors.

Wasim Jaffer Omits Axar Patel In His World Cup Squad

The 46-year-old opted for Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh as finishers in his squad. He selected Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja as all-rounders. Jaffer left out DC spinner Axar Patel, who has scored 134 runs and taken seven wickets at an economy of 7.36 in the current IPL season.

Wasim Jaffer selected Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav as specialist spinners. In the pace bowling department, he opted for Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh. However, Arshdeep and Siraj struggled with their bowling performances in the 17th edition of the IPL.
