The Netherlands, on Monday (May 13), announced their squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The marquee event is scheduled to be played from June 1 to 29 in the United States of America and the Caribbean.
It will be the Netherlands' sixth appearance in the T20 World Cup and fifth in a row. They have qualified in each edition of the tournament since 2016. In the last edition of the T20 World Cup, the Netherlands had won four of the eight games including wins over Zimbabwe and South Africa.
They will be looking to replicate the performance in the upcoming T20 World Cup as well as they look to advance ahead of the group stage for the first time. For the 2024 T20 World Cup, they are in Group D alongside former winners Sri Lanka, South Africa, Nepal and Bangladesh.
Netherlands squad for T20 World Cup 2024:
The Netherlands have taken some big calls as they look to perform well in the T20 World Cup 2024. They have decided to ignore two experienced names for the mega event. Veteran allrounder Roelof van der Merwe as well as Colin Ackermann have failed to make the cut for the tournament.
Both van der Merwe and Ackermann were part of the Netherlands squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup. The selectors have decided to pin their hopes on youth and have included left-arm spinner Tim Pringle, pacer Kyle Klein, and opener Michael Levitt in the 15-member Netherlands squad.
Earlier this year, Levitt grabbed the attention by scoring a whirlwind century against Namibia in a T20I tri-series played in Nepal. He had smashed 135 runs in just 62 balls with the help of 11 fours and 10 sixes. Wicketkeeper-batsman Scott Edwards will continue to lead the team.
The Netherlands will open their campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 4 against Nepal in Dallas. On June 8, they will take on South Africa in New York before playing against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on June 13 and 16 respectively.
