T20 World Cup 2024: Not Mayank Yadav! DC pacer, Shubman Gill among players in contention for travelling reserves

The India team selection for the T20 World Cup 2024 has become a major topic in the last couple of days. Some big players are set to face heartbreak as it is learned that Shubman Gill and Axar Patel are all set to miss out on the squad for the tournament. The event will take place in June this year in the United States of America and the Caribbean. 

As per the reports in Indian Express, it is learned that Shubman Gill, Riyan Parag, Axar Patel, and Khaleel Ahmed are in the fray to be part of the traveling reserves for the tournament. Out of these four players, three will travel with the team to the USA and the Caribbean. 

Shubman Gill and Axar Patel have been regular members of the T20I team and have done decently well for the team. But with the presence of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja around, the duo might have to miss out. On the other hand, Riyan Parag and Khaleel Ahmed have been doing incredibly well in IPL 2023 

It is also learned that Yuzvendra Chahal is also likely to be excluded from the team. The leg-spinner has been in golden form in the ongoing IPL 2024 and is currently the second-leading wicket-taker in the tournament. The reports claimed that BCCI is not keen to go back to him as they believe that he is also not a good fielder. 

The reports also claimed that Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi will be spinners in the team. The team management wants to accumulate Shivam Dube and hence they will be picking only three seamers in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh. 

Shivam Dube has oozed his class with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2024. He has been at his brutal best with the bat. The team management might use him as an all-rounder even though he hasn't bowled in the league. Therefore he is expected to be a straightforward choice. 

It is also learned that Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav are likely to make the top 4. However, the team management is likely to be specialists for the role. The squad might also see Rinku Singh as extra batter in the team. 

Rishabh Pant to be the keeper for the team in T20 World Cup 2024; Sanju Samson, Dhruv Jurel, and Jitesh Sharma are in contention 

The reports also claimed that Rishabh Pant will be the first-choice keeper in the team. KL Rahul is likely to be out of contention because team management doesn't want another top-order batter as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Yashasvi Jaiswal are also there. 

With team management considering specialists for roles, it is learned that team management might look at Jitesh Sharma and Dhruv Jurel. It is also reported that BCCI is all set to announce the team for the T20 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday (30th April). It remains to be seen who will make it into the team for the tournament.
