T20 World Cup 2024: Sunil Gavaskar challenges Virat Kohli to join him and Alastair Cook in this Elite list

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, after calling out Virat Kohli in IPL 2024, has challenged the latter to join himself and Alastair Cook in an Elite list.
Both Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli had got into an argument, not directly but there was a very good back and forth between the two. It had started after Kohli had lashed out at the commentators for their silly comments on his strike rate and inability to play spinners.
The RCB batter's comments had come after a century he scored in IPL 2024 with his remarks spreading like wildfire.
It eventually reached Sunil Gavaskar, who first slammed Star Sports for running Virat Kohli's video again and again. Gavaskar had then bashed Kohli for his comments against the commentators, claiming that if he doesn't care about the outside noise, then he should not even respond to it. Hopefully, the former cricketer's latest comments do not create another controversial row.
Sunil Gavaskar challenges Virat Kohli to score a Century in Gabba
While speaking at an event recently, Sunil Gavaskar appeared to be taking a dig at Virat Kohli by saying that the latter still hasn't scored a century in Gabba.
Therefore, when he visits Australia at the end of this year for the 5-match Border-Gavaskar Test series, Gavaskar's only wish for Kohli is to see him score a century at the venue.
It is the same venue in Brisbane, Queensland where Rishabh Pant delivered one of the greatest Test knocks to help India claim victory over Australia in 2021. Despite leading India towards the win, Pant couldn't become the second Indian to score a century over there.
But Sunil Gavaskar wants the successful Virat Kohli, who has never scored a Ton in Gabba, to break the jinx at last. Gavaskar really wants the batting stalwart to become the third overseas batter after himself and former England captain Alastair Cook to score triple figures in Gabba.
"On an individual level, [my wish] maybe for Virat Kohli is that he becomes the third overseas player who's scored a Test century in all the Australian venues. I think he doesn't have one at the Gabba, so if he gets a century at The Gabba, that means he joins me and Alastair Cook." - Sunil Gavaskar said in an event.
Virat's record in Australia from 2011-2020
Virat Kohli was not a part of the Indian team that had won the Gabba Test match and the Border-Gavaskar trophy in 2020-2021. The then-Indian captain had left to be with their wife Anushka Sharma for the birth of their first child Vamika. Kohli was present in the Indian side which welcomed Australia for the BGT series last year and this year, the expectations will be very high from him.
In what will be his 5th tour of Australia since making his senior debut, Virat Kohli will hope to add more runs on his tally at the Land Down Under. From 13 Test matches in Australia, Kohli has scored 1352 runs at an average of 54.08 along with 6 full centuries and 4 half-centuries.
