Indian cricket fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of ace batter Virat Kohli in New York for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA). Virat Kohli is the only member of India's T20 World Cup squad, including the four reserves, who haven't reached the USA yet.

Virat Kohli played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Kohli showcased exceptional form with the bat, scoring 741 runs at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69. However, the 35-year-old batter couldn't help his team secure the first IPL title.

The T20 World Cup 2024 is set to commence on Sunday, June 2, with a match between the USA and Canada. The Indian cricket team will kick off their campaign against Ireland on June 5. The Men in Blue will participate in a warm-up game against Bangladesh on Saturday before their World Cup campaign.

Virat Kohli Took A Break For Personal Work - Report

All members of the Indian squad have arrived in the United States for the T20 World Cup, except Virat Kohli. According to reports, the right-handed batter had informed the BCCI of his delayed arrival. As per a report from news agency PTI, the former Indian skipper is expected to reach New York on Friday.

"Kohli took a break for personal work after RCB's IPL ouster and in all likelihood, he will join the squad by Friday," they said.

Reports suggest that Virat Kohli is unlikely to be available for India's lone warm-up match against Bangladesh due to his prolonged flight.

"It is not clear if he would be able to take part in the only warm-up game against Bangladesh on Saturday after a long flight," PTI wrote.

Indian cricketers arrived in New York in groups. The first batch, including captain Rohit Sharma, coaching staff, and other players, departed Mumbai on May 25. Rajasthan Royals (RR) players Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Yashasvi Jaiswal arrived a few days later after being part of the IPL Qualifier 2.

The 2007 T20 World Cup champions will kick off their campaign against Ireland in New York on June 5. The Rohit Sharma-led team will face arch-rival Pakistan in a highly anticipated encounter on June 9. They will face the USA on June 12 before moving to Lauderhill, Florida, to play against Canada on June 15.
