T20 World Cup 2024: Wasim Akram ditches Pakistan as he prepares to train bowlers of this team ahead of WC

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) took a major step for the national team in their preparations for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and Caribbean. Actually, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) roped in Pakistani pace legend Wasim Akram in a special role ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024.
In an official statement, the SLC confirmed that Wasim Akram will conduct a comprehensive two-day training program for Sri Lankan cricketers and coaches. Sri Lanka’s national players, SLC High-Performance Coaches, and coaches representing major clubs in the country will attend this training program.
Akram, one of the greatest fast bowlers the game has ever seen, already arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday, May 1, and he will start his training program on Thursday, May 2. Sri Lankan players will receive valuable insights and guidance from the legendary cricketer in these two days.

During his stay in Sri Lanka, Akram will oversee a total of five sessions, each designed to enhance the skills and expertise of the SLC Pace Academy, the High-Performance Center (HPC), and coaches from prominent cricket clubs across the island.
Moreover, as part of his responsibilities, Akram will closely observe and offer guidance to Sri Lanka's national players as they prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024. His wealth of experience and expertise are expected to provide precious support to the players for the prestigious event.
The SLC said in an official statement: “The program marks Sri Lanka Cricket’s initiative to bring in the required expertise to enhance the coaching strength of the SLC High Performance Center and the Major Club system in the country. The decision to invite Akram was taken by the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket headed by Mr. Shammi Silva, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket.”

Sri Lanka begins T20 World Cup 2024 preparations with a practice tournament
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka cricket team is set to kick off a T20 practice tournament involving three teams as part of the national team's preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, starting on May 2. However, Sri Lanka has not yet announced the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
This tournament will feature three teams named Yellow, Green, and Red, each comprising 14 members. Wanindu Hasaranga will lead ‘Team Yellow,’ Charith Asalanka will captain ‘Team Red,’ and Janith Liyanage will take charge of ‘Team Green.’
The T20 practice tournament opener will be played between Team Yellow and Team Red on Thursday, May 2, followed by a tussle between Team Red and Team Green on May 4, and then Team Green will face Team Yellow in the third T20 match on May 5.
The fourth match of the tournament will see a battle between Team Red and Team Yellow on May 8, followed by Team Green versus Team Red on May 10, and the final match will be played between Team Green and Team Yellow on May 11.
