Former India opener Virender Sehwag, who was a key part of the Indian team that won the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup 2007, has high hopes for Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The left-hand batter, who is representing the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024, has a good chance of making it to the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 later this June in the USA and West Indies. Jaiswal is being touted to make the cut ahead of Shubman Gill and pair with Rohit Sharma in the opening slot.

On the chances of taking the flight to the USA and West Indies, Virender Sehwag feels that Yashasvi Jaiswal has got his tickets and visa booked for the World Cup. During the initial matches of Rajasthan Royals in the 2024 IPL season, the UP-born batter looked out of form and was not able to score runs the way he had done last season.

Dream debut home Test series to sudden slump in IPL

Heading into IPL 2024, Jaiswal had experienced a sensational 3 months from January to March when India hosted England for a 5-match Test series at home.

In what was his debut home Test series, Yashasvi Jaiswal became the series' highest scorer with over 700 runs from 9 innings which also included 2 double centuries. He was imperative in India's turnaround 4-1 series win after losing the 1st Test by 28 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad.

However, come the IPL Jaiswal was not able to replicate the same form, at least in the first 7 matches where he had amassed a total of 121 runs before scoring his 2nd IPL century against Mumbai Indians 2 days ago.

What did Virender Sehwag say about Yashasvi Jaiswal?

While speaking in the post-match analysis of CSK Vs LSG last night, Virender Sehwag had some motivational words for Yashasvi Jaiswal. Viru said that he has high hopes for Jaiswal and he recognizes the latter's come up from the small town of Bhadohi.

Sehwag said that players who come from small cities have to put in extra hard work every day otherwise they know that they will be replaced easily.

"I have high hopes for this boy. When you come from a small city, you know you have to put in the hard work otherwise you might have to go back." - Sehwag said via Cricbuzz.

Virender Sehwag also shed light on Jaiswal's average performances early on in the IPL season and claimed that he will hit his form soon and that he will be an automatic selection in the World Cup T20. "He will come back to form soon. I believe his ticket and visa for the World Cup is confirmed." - Sehwag concluded.

Rajasthan Royals to play against Lucknow Super Giants up next
