Rohit Sharma can execute plans under pressure: Nathan Haurtiz
The 18-member squad of India will be led by Virat Kohli in the showpiece event with Rohit Sharma as his deputy.
Haurtiz, who played 78 matches for Australia in his nine years of international cricket, believes that Rohit will be a key member for Kohli in the upcoming World Cup.
“Rohit (Sharma) is definitely going to be a key guy for Virat. He will be the key for Virat. He is very dangerous. Of course, Virat as well. He (Rohit) can execute plans under pressure. He has the ability to absorb pressure and tackle the pressure situations,” Hauritz told TimesofIndia.com.
Virat Kohli has been an amazing leader: Nathan Haurtiz
Last month Virat Kohli had announced that he would give up India’s captaincy in the T20I format after the T20 World Cup.
Kohli is yet to win India an ICC trophy under his leadership, and this will be the best opportunity before him to win one before stepping down from the role in the shortest format.
Haurtiz called Kohli an amazing leader and said he will be responsible to get the best out of his players in the mega event.
“Yes definitely. Virat has been an amazing leader. We’ve seen it from all around the world,” Haurtiz said.
“It’s not the leader’s responsibility to just look after the team on a battlefield, he’s the person responsible for moving the troops and making decisions. At the same time, he’s responsible for the other 10 cricketers and what they’re doing, whether they’re batting, bowling or fielding. It’s his job to get the best out of them on the day. There are plenty of opportunities for Virat to get an ICC trophy in his cabinet,” he added.
India will play against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
