Team India coach Ravi Shastri was undoubtedly as proud a man as any as his side clinched the three-match ODI series against England on Sunday in a cliffhanger. India’s victory came amid England all-rounder Sam Curran delivering a performance of a lifetime when the chips were down in pursuit of 330. Ravi Shastri, who remained tense throughout, wished the Indian team for having a season of a lifetime.

India’s home season of 2021 began with losing the first of the four Tests against England. They fought back to win the next three Tests comprehensively. The men in blue suffered a defeat in the first T20I in the five-match rubber; however, they clinched the rubber by 3-2, beating the number one T20I side. The three-match ODI series also witnessed Virat Kohli’s men being under pressure after letting the tourists chase 337 in the second ODI to level the series.

Speaking of the third ODI, India started brilliantly after England put them to bat, threading a 103-run opening stand. But from there, England’s spinners reduced them to 157-4, removing Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul. But the 99-run stand between Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya gave India the upper hand, while Shardul Thakur’s valuable 30 runs were also significant in the hosts reaching 329.

Unlike the first two ODIs, the visitors’ opening stand did not last as long as Jason Roy perished in the first over. The likes of Ben Stokes, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, and Moeen Ali all made promising starts; however, they could not convert them into a long inning. Sam Curran kept England in the hunt with two half-century partnerships with Adil Rashid and Mark Wood. Despite dropping as many as four catches, India managed to survive Sam Curran’s onslaught to eke out a seven-run win.
