Tensions have grown in the country with the citizens desperate to leave a flooded Kabul international airport. Amid the turmoil in Afghanistan, Pakistan’s national cricket board believes that the Taliban has given permission for the series and they will announce their squad for the same.
“The series appears to be on and the indications we have got is that the Taliban authorities have given green light for the series,” a PCB source said, as reported by news agency PTI.
“We are going ahead with our plans and we will announce our squad as soon as the second test against the West Indies ends on 24th August,” he added.
Earlier, Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesperson Hikmat Hasan said they were confident about the series and in case it doesn’t happen they would advance the dates of the Shpageeza Cricket League (Afghanistan’s domestic T20 league).
Pakistan vs Afghanistan ODI series shifted from UAE to Sri Lanka
Pakistan will play Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series between September 1 and September 5. It would be the first bilateral series between the two teams, as both of them have faced each other in multi-team tournaments like World Cup and Asia Cup.
The bilateral series was shifted from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Sri Lanka because of the IPL 2021, which will resume on September 10 in the Gulf nation. All three ODI matches will be played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota.
The ODI series is a part of the ICC Super League, which will help teams to qualify for the 2023 World Cup. Both teams will also meet in the group stage of the ICC T20 World Cup on October 29 in Dubai.
