Fast bowler Sandeep Warrier, who is currently plying his trade for Tamil Nadu after having switched allegiance from Kerala before the start of the season, has been named as one of the net bowlers by the selectors for the national sides’ upcoming home Test series against England.
The squad for the first two Tests which are set to take place at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai has already been announced and the Virat Kohli-led unit along with standbys and net bowlers will enter the bio-bubble in the coming days.
However, according to a report published in the Times of India, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association [TNCA] wants Sandeep Warrier to join the Team India bubble only after the completion of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. The tournament will culminate on January 31.
“Tamil Nadu is currently in the knockouts of the competition in Ahmedabad and Warrier remains a key member of the side. We are keen to have him for the remainder of the tournament,” a TNCA source told TOI on Wednesday.
The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has already sent a request to the BCCI for the same. However, the state organization is yet to get a revert from the apex body.
“We are yet to hear from the BCCI but are hopeful that they will agree to our request. Warrier is already in a bio-bubble at the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20s, and for him it will be a case of leaving one bio-bubble and entering another,” the source added.
If Tamil Nadu goes to play the finals, then Sandeep Warrier will only be able to join the bio-bubble on February 01. Tamil Nadu qualified for the knockouts after having won each of their five group-stage encounters. Sandeep Warrier featured in all those matches, claiming five wickets at an economy rate of 7.27.
