Tamil Nadu plans to surpass Narendra Modi Stadium with aim to build India’s biggest cricket stadium in Coimbatore

In a recent development, the Tamil Nadu state government is planning to construct a new cricket stadium with international facilities in Coimbatore. The Tamil Nadu state government is planning to build the stadium with the largest seating capacity in the country, according to the latest news reports.
State Industries Minister TRB Rajaa shared on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that Chief Minister MK Stalin had promised to build an international cricket stadium in Coimbatore during the Parliamentary elections. He said that the government wants to boost cricket infrastructure in the region.
Udhayanidhi Stalin Promised To Build Cricket Stadium In Coimbatore
State Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udhayanidhi Stalin requested officials to find a suitable location for the new cricket stadium. Udhayanidhi stated that the stadium would become Tamil Nadu's second international-standard venue after the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Following that, three locations were shortlisted, and the minister personally inspected them. The Ondipudur area in Coimbatore has now been selected for the new cricket stadium. The TN government has issued tenders to prepare a detailed project report for the construction of the international venue.
Tamil Nadu To Build Stadium With Largest Seating Capacity In The World

The project will feature the largest seating capacity in the country and include top-tier amenities like VIP and corporate facilities, a players' lounge, a media center, public cafeterias and restaurants, viewing galleries, and a cricket museum.
TN has an international cricket stadium in Chennai. The Chepauk, home venue for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is the second oldest stadium in India. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is the largest capacity in the world, while the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is the largest in terms of dimensions.
The Department has recommended MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as models for the new stadium, with Lord's Cricket Ground in London as a secondary reference.
Bidders are tasked with incorporating advanced design concepts, including research and rehabilitation facilities for players and coaches, as well as high-quality media, administrative, and public amenities.
