England star batter Tammy Beaumont has announced her retirement from international cricket on July 8. England's upcoming Test match against India will be her last ever match for the England Women's National Cricket Team.

The India vs England Test match is scheduled to start on Friday at Lord's. Tammy Beaumont made her debut for the national cricket team in 2009 and so far has played 11 Tests, 140 one-day internationals and 109 T20s.

Tammy Beaumont shares an emotional note on her retirement

Beaumont is among the rare batters from England who have centuries across all three formats in England cricket. Former England captain Heather Knight was the other one to achieve the feat.

"Playing for England for nearly 17 years has been the greatest honour... This Test match at Lord's – our first-ever women's Test at Lord's – feels like the perfect occasion to sign off on a career that I could never have dreamt would be as special as it has been," Beaumont said in her official announcement.

Tammy Beaumont recalled the days when she was a young girl

Reflecting on the days when she was very young and was a wannabe cricketer, she barely had any idea about the opportunities in the game. She did not even have the idea that cricket could shape someone's future.

"When I fell in love with playing cricket as a young girl, I barely knew that playing cricket for England was an option, and it brings me so much joy to think how many girls and boys have been inspired, this summer especially, and how far the game has come in our country," Beaumont mentioned.

Tammy Beaumont, 35, believes that it is the right time for her to call her day from international cricket to create room for the next generation of players who will take the team ahead in the future.

"We've always wanted to take the cap forward for the next generation and the time has come for me to hand over that privilege to the next generation of England players," she stated in her official statement.

Tammy Beaumont left the towering records behind.

Before announcing her retirement, Beaumont left her mark on a permamnet basic through her 12 hundreds, which makes her England Women’s leading ODI centurion. The batter played an instrumental role when the team lifted the ICC Women’s World Cup on home soil in 2017. She concluded the tournament as the top scorer across the tournament with 410 runs.

Beaumont also said that while she will remain away from the national team, she will continue playing in domestic cricket.

"I will still be playing domestic cricket, but I'd like to thank all the fans for your amazing support," she said.

On the emotional moment, the Managing Director of England Women, Clare Connor, highlighted that the contributions Beaumont has made to the game are beyond any words.

"Tammy has made a remarkable contribution to the England Women’s cricket team, and we will miss her incredibly," Connor stated.
