Bangladesh pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib has offered an apology for his misogynistic comments that hogged the headlines on Monday.
The Bangladesh fast bowler, who recently made his debut for the side, came under a lot of scrutiny after he targeted working women and made some disrespectful statements about them.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib’s comments on Facebook last year had gone viral. He criticized working women and stated: “If the wife works, the husband’s rights are not ensured. If the wife works, the child’s rights are not ensured. If the wife works, her elegance is damaged. If the wife works, the family is ruined. If the works, the veil is ruined. If the wife works, society is ruined.”
However, after all the fuss, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had a conversation with Tazim Hasan Sakib following which he apologized for his mistakes. BCB operations chief Jalal Yunus revealed that the pacer has been contacted by the media committee. As quoted by BDcrictime, he explained:
“From the cricket board and cricket operations, we have had discussions with Tanzim Sakib. We talked to him. He has also been contacted by the media committee. We informed him about the posts that came on Facebook… his statement is that he didn’t make such posts to hurt anyone.
“Whatever he posted, it wasn’t meant for anyone in particular. He felt sorry if anyone got hurt due to his posts.”
We asked him to be careful – Jalal Yunus on Tanzim Hasan Sakib
Jalal Yunus further went on to say that Tazim Hasan Sakib took responsibility for all the posts he made and was informed by BCB to be careful. He also warned that if the fast bowler made any such comments actions would be taken. He explained:
“A topic comes about women. He took the responsibility for all the posts he made. He said he’s not a misogynist. He dispelled the claim fully. He said his mother is a woman also, he can never be a misogynist. This is his statement. We asked him to be careful. If he posts anything like this in the future, it will be monitored by the board,” he said.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib recently made his debut for Bangladesh in an ODI against India in the Asia Cup 2023. He had an impressive debut as he bowled staggeringly well and even removed Rohit Sharma for the duck. He achieved a lot of praise for his heroics.
