Team India to participate in thrilling Hong Kong Sixes 2024

Cricket Hong Kong has confirmed Team India's participation in the Hong Kong Sixes this year. The legacy tournament is making a comeback after a gap of seven years. The last edition of the tournament was played in 2017,

Hong Kong Sixes is a six-a-side international cricket tournament that is sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and is organized by Cricket Hong Kong. First edition of the tournament was played way back in 1993.

HK6 captured the cricket fans' attention due to its unique format and high-scoring matches. The rules of the competition make the games high-scoring. One of the rules is that every player (except the wicket-keeper) is required to bowl one over.

Some of the biggest names from the world of cricket have plied their trades in Hong Kong Sixes in the past. Players such as Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Shane Warne, MS Dhoni, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Malik, and Glenn Maxwell have played in the tournament in the past.

South Africa, England, and Pakistan are the most successful teams, each having won the title five times. The Proteas' most recent victory was in 2017 when they defeated Pakistan in the final. Other countries that have won the tournament include Sri Lanka, Australia, West Indies, and India.

A total of 18 editions of the competition have been played so far. England won the inaugural edition in 1992 while South Africa won the last edition in 2017. England and South Africa are also the most successful sides in the tournament, each having won the tournament five times so far.

India in Hong Kong Sixes:

This year's Hong Kong Sixes will be played from November 1 to 3 at Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground. The tournament will feature a total of 12 teams. One of those teams will be India. Cricket Hong Kong confirmed India's participation on Monday (October 7).

Taking to X, Cricket Hong Kong wrote: "Team India is gearing up to smash it out of the park at HK6! Prepare for explosive power hitting and a storm of sixes that will electrify the crowd!"

India have won the tournament once so far. They won the tournament in 2005 with a 4-wicket win over West Indies in the final. Former India allrounder Robin Singh had led the team during the victorious campaign.

Apart from India, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Hong Kong, Nepal, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates will be participating in Hong Kong Sixes 2024.
