India batting legend Sunil Gavaskar had backed the Indian cricket team to win the next two Test matches against England as well and pocket the series 3-1. The last two Tests of the four-match series will be played in Ahmedabad’s new Sardar Patel Stadium on February 24 and March 4.

Though England had won the first Test match in Chennai by 227 runs, India came back with vengeance in the second Test, also in Chennai, and won the match in three and a half days by 317 runs. The four-Test series stands 1-1 and India needs to win the series either 2-1 or 3-1 in order to qualify for the finals of the ICC World Test Championship and face New Zealand at the Lord’s ground in England.

Speaking on the Aaj Tak channel, the former India captain shared his views on how the next two Test matches will go, as the upcoming third Test match between India and England will be a day-night affair in the New Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad. While the fourth Test will be a traditional red-ball Test match.

“I feel India will win the next two Test matches also. England sometimes goes to Bangladesh or Sri Lanka before coming to India. So, the tiredness you experience because of the travel is being seen in the England team. And because of that I feel we will win the next two matches as well,” said Gavaskar.

Sunil Gavaskar predicts changes in the Indian playing XI for the upcoming pink-ball Test

Sunil Gavaskar also opined that the third Test match against England, which will be a pink-ball affair, is an excellent opportunity for the visitors to put pressure on the Virat Kohli-led Indian team, who will be playing only the second day-night match in their Test history.

The former India captain also predicted that the Indian team might make a few changes to the playing XI as well, possibly bringing in Jasprit Bumrah, given his ability and excellent skills. He also thinks that the Indian team will switch to a pace-heavy attack given it is a pink ball match.

“There will be only change in the Indian team, Jasprit Bumrah will come in place of Kuldeep Yadav because Kuldeep Yadav did not get much bowling in the Chennai Test. And the way Axar Patel took five wickets, he along with Ravichandran Ashwin will be our two spinners. Because it is the pink ball and it is a day-night match, I feel the Indian team will go in with three seamers. Ishant Sharma and Siraj will be the other two seamers along with Jasprit Bumrah,” said Gavaskar.

Reports have stated that Mohammed Shami and Navdeep Saini might also be added to the Indian squad for the third Test in Ahmedabad.
