Telangana CM felicitates Mohammed Siraj after T20 World Cup win

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, on Tuesday (July 9), felicitated fast-bowler Mohammed Siraj after India's victory in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup win.

India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final to win the T20 World Cup after a gap of 17 years. The win also made India the first Asian team to win the T20 World Cup twice. Overall, India became the third team after West Indies and England to win the tournament twice.

The Rohit Sharma-led side won the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup without losing a single game. They beat Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA in the group stage before defeating Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and the USA in the Super 8s. In the semifinal, India thrashed defending champions England by 68 runs before beating South Africa to win an ICC trophy after 11 years.

Mohammed Siraj honoured by Telangana CM

The players received a grand welcome in the country after the T20 World Cup win. The winning Indian team landed in the country last Thursday (July 4). They met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi before taking part in a victory parade in Mumbai where thousands of fans gave them a rousing reception.

The BCCI also felicitated the players at the Wankhede Stadium and handed the Rs 125 crore cheque to the team. After the event in Mumbai, the players left for their respective hometowns and received a hero's welcome there as well.

Mohammed Siraj arrived in Hyderabad on Friday (July 5) and received a grand welcome from the fans. And on Tuesday, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy honoured the fast bowler for the T20 World Cup victory. The Telangana CM also posted a few photos of the meeting on X. Later Siraj replied to the post, thanking the CM for the felicitation as he wrote:

"Thank you so much sir for honouring me and for the appreciation. Im delighted to meet you and looking forward to do everything in my capacity to bring laurels to the country and our Telangana state."

Siraj played three games in the T20 World Cup before being replaced by Kuldeep Yadav in the playing eleven once the USA leg of the tournament ended. In those three games, he picked up 1 wicket. Siraj is likely to be seen in action next when India tour Sri Lanka later this month.
