Rohit Sharma hits sensational ton

The Indian skipper was going through a lengthy lean patch in international cricket for a very long time. He looked miserable with the bat and was troubled by both pace and spin.

His leadership also came under scrutiny, and some reports emerged claiming that the Indian skipper might opt out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in case he is unable to score runs in all three ODI matches of the series against England.

There were calls for his sacking as well, but Rohit Sharma decided to shut down the critics with his performance in the Cuttack ODI. He played his natural attacking game in the match despite averaging close to 12 in his last 17 international innings.

Rohit started off aggressively against England and registered a half-century off 30 balls. He played some eye-catching strokes and hit some massive sixes as well.

He wasn't satisfied with fifty and looked committed to converting it into a big score. Rohit Sharma mixed caution with aggression as his innings further progressed and completed his ton off just 76 balls - his second-fastest ever in ODIs. The Indian skipper didn't do any over-the-top celebration after reaching the triple-figure mark but looked quite satisfied.

Who Were the Top Performers For India In The Previous ODI vs England?

Rohit Sharma failed miserably, scoring 2 runs in the first ODI, but several Indian players delivered good performances and played a key role in the four-wicket win in Nagpur.

The top performer was Shubman Gill (87 off 96), who also won the Player of the Match award. He played a brilliant knock, stabilizing the innings after the fall of early wickets. His well-paced innings ensured India never felt pressure while chasing.

Shreyas Iyer (59 off 36) smashed a counterattacking fifty and changed the momentum of the game. He sent a clear message to the Gautam Gambhir-led team management, who had planned to keep him on the bench but Virat Kohli's injury paved the way for his selection.

Other notable performers were Axar Patel (52 off 47 & 1/38), Ravindra Jadeja ( 12* & 3/26) and Harshit Rana (3/53). Axar was promoted to No.5 in the batting order and he built a crucial 108-run partnership with Shubman Gill.

Ravindra Jadeja, meanwhile, was quite effective with the ball. He made life hard for English batters and his three-wicket haul, including key dismissals of Joe Root and Jacob Bethell.

Talking about Harshit Rana, he shined on his ODI debut after being taken to the cleaners initially. He bounced back to dismiss three star batters, including Ben Duckett and Liam Livingstone.
