While the cricketing world is very excited and eagerly waiting for the 2023 ODI World Cup to begin, it looks like Temba Bavuma is an exception. The right-handed batsman is set to lead South Africa in the highly-anticipated World Cup.
The South Africa captain hilariously fell asleep during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Captains Day on Wednesday (October 4). The event is taking place in Ahmedabad, one day before the start of the main tournament. While other captains sat in pairs on the couch, Temba Bavuma was sitting alone on a chair and he decided to make the most of it.
He was seen enjoying a nap while the event was going on. However, few would criticize the South African captain for this, as he had just traveled to South Africa from India before returning to the country. The right-handed batsman had to return home due to family reasons before he joined the team earlier this week. And while the South Africa team was in Delhi preparing for the first match, their captain had to fly to Ahmedabad for the event.

Temba Bavuma on the experience of playing in India:
During the event, Temba Bavuma spoke about South African players’ experience of playing in India. A number of players in the Proteas outfit have ample experience of playing in India thanks to the IPL. And while the experience will definitely be a plus point for South Africa, Temba Bavuma believes that it is not an advantage as most of the teams have players who play in the IPL.
“It is something relevant to all the teams lot of the teams have guys who play in India and have done well in India I wouldn’t really say it is an advantage for us all we can really do us is guys who have that experience and knowledge they can share it amongst teams or use it in terms of strength and plans I wouldn’t say it is an advantage unique to us as a team,” said Temba Bavuma.
The ODI World Cup is scheduled to be played from October 5 to November 19. In the tournament opener, reigning champions England will lock horns against New Zealand in Ahmedabad. South Africa will open their campaign against Sri Lanka on October 7 in Delhi.
