The BCCI not just confirmed UAE as the venue for the second phase of IPL 2021, but also the T20 World Cup amid the COVID-19 situation in India. The Special General Meeting (SGM) of the BCCI revealed that UAE would stage the remaining 31 games of IPL 2021; however, the dates remain tentative as of now. There could be some tweaks from the original schedule.

Earlier, it emerged that BCCI plans to start the second phase of this year’s cash-rich league on the 19th of September and finish the tournament a few days before the T20 World Cup. The board had planned to announce the itinerary of IPL 2021 on Monday; however, it stands delayed. According to a Times of India report, BCCI aims to wrap up the lucrative competition by the 10th of October and give their players two weeks’ rest before the T20 World Cup.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly revealed that they are yet to finalise the dates for the T20 World Cup. The former Indian captain feels that even if they begin the tournament just after IPL 2021, it should not be a problem since the first 12 fixtures would be the qualifiers between eight teams. Ganguly announced that Oman would stage the qualifiers.

“The dates haven’t been finalised. Even if the tournament starts on the heels of the IPL, it will not be much of a problem because the first 12 matches of the tournament will be played between the eight teams as qualifiers. Those matches will be played in Oman,” Ganguly told Times of India.

The likely schedule of IPL 2021 and the T20 World Cup as per BCCI’s plans:
