Pat Cummins is undoubtedly the best captain in the world, as ever since he took over Australia’s captaincy, he has won everything—from the Ashes to the ICC World Test Championship and ODI World Cup 2023 to now the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 14 years.
On Sunday, December 5, the Australian cricket team crushed India by six wickets in the fifth and final Test match to win the Test series by a 3-1 margin and clinched the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 under Pat Cummins’ captaincy at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney.
Cummins has not only been exceptional as a captain but also shone with the ball as well, finishing the Test series as the second-highest wicket-taker with 25 wickets at an average of 21.36 after Jasprit Bumrah, who won the Player of the Series honor for being the highest wicket-taker with 32 wickets at 13.06.

After winning the Test series against India at home, Pat Cummins has described Australia’s remarkable Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory as “unreal” while expressing his pride in the team’s performance and their ability to deliver under pressure.
The Australian skipper also noted that this was many players’ first experience winning the prestigious trophy in the squad, and this BGT series lived up to all the expectations. Cummins credited Australia’s clear plans and proactive approach for their series win over Team India, saying he feels really privileged to be part of such a special and talented group of players.
Pat Cummins said at the post-match presentation at the SCG: “Unreal. Few of us didn't have this trophy. Lived up to all the hype. Just be clear with our plans. We tried to be proactive; ultimately, it worked out. Immensely proud. We weren't at our best in Perth. We had a lot of fun playing alongside each other. I love playing with these guys. Such a special group. Feel privileged to be part of such a team. Really proud of what we have achieved.”
Pat Cummins ranks BGT 2024-25 as one of his most favorite Test series
Three Australians made their debut and seamlessly integrated into the squad, and the star pacer said that they all contributed at key moments. Cummins also acknowledged the critical moments when senior players stepped up, which were crucial to overpowering a strong Indian side.
Cummins added, “Pretty happy with how I played. I had a fresh up coming into this series. These are the big series you prepare for. Some keen moments when our mainstays really stood up. You need to do that to beat a side like India. Our guys put their hands up. It would go down as one of my most favorite Test series. Thanks to Rohit and Jasprit.”
The Australian skipper also praised the incredible support from fans at every venue throughout the five-match Test series against Australia, especially the electrifying atmosphere during the matches at the MCG and SCG, which hosted the Boxing Day Test and New Year’s Test, respectively.
Pat Cummins says fans made the India Test series so special
The Australian pacer further added, “The fans made the series. Every venue was incredible. MCG was off its head. Three sellouts in three days here at Sydney. This shows why Test cricket is so special and why we love playing it so much.”
Notably, the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) was turned into a sea of pink for the annual Pink Test, held in honor of Jane McGrath, the late wife of Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath. This special day was started by the McGrath Foundation, which works to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research.
And Cummins said that it was a great way to start 2025. The Australian skipper signed off by saying, “Seeing everyone turning out in pink and celebrating an amazing cause is a great way to kick start the year.”
