The last few months have been really tough on Riyan Parag and the young batsman has now opened up on the same. Time and again, the young batsman has been trolled on social media and the trolling only increased after his poor performances in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
The poor show with the bat in the recently-concluded Emerging Teams Asia Cup only made things worse for him. Before the start of IPL 2023, Riyan Parag had taken to Twitter to state that he had a feeling he would hit four maximums in an over at some point in the upcoming IPL.
Several users trolled him for that tweet and did not squander a single opportunity to have some fun at the youngster’s expense throughout IPL 2023. Riyan Parag also did very little to shut down the trolls. In 7 games, he managed to score only 78 runs at an average of 13 and a top-score of 20.
Riyan Parag opens up on being trolled:
Riyan Parag’s journey in IPL has surprised many. In a tournament where players hardly get a consistent run, the batsman from Assam has turned out to be an exception. He has played 54 games for Rajasthan Royals so far and is yet to have a breakout season.
In those 54 games, he has managed only 600 runs at an average of 16 but has continued to get the backing from Rajasthan Royals. The extended run despite the poor performance has made many accuse the franchise of nepotism. Time and again, users on social media have alleged that Riyan Parag’s family members have some sort of connection with the franchise.
The 22-year old has finally opened up on the allegations and has hit back at the trolls. He has slammed his critics by saying that he has not taken anything for granted and has also denied getting any undue favour from the franchise.
“What hurts me the most is that people think I take it for granted, I have some connections or sources, and that’s absolutely HORSE****, I told you about my journey. People from Assam haven’t played at the IPL level, I’m going to play a lot more.
“I do not take anything for granted, I have the craziest work ethic, you can ask people who are close to me. All that goes unnoticed because I don’t brag about it on social media. You can have all the assumptions if you don’t want to know me,” Riyan Parag told Cricket.com in an interaction.
Meanwhile, the right-handed batsman has finally roared back to form with two impressive centuries in the ongoing Deodhar Trophy.
