The 14th season of the IPL was suspended for an indefinite period of time by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earlier this week following multiple Covid positive cases across four different teams.
With a lot of money at stake, the BCCI is mulling over UAE, UK, and even Australia as potential venues to complete the remaining games during a suitable window later this year.
The English counties, meanwhile, have also offered their support in hosting the remaining games of IPL 2021 at the backend of the English summer.
Petersen believes that moving the tournament to the UK will be a viable option as the Indian team would be ij the country at the time because of their five-match Test series against England.
“I have seen people talking about the UAE as a possible destination to finish the IPL in September, but I actually think the IPL should move to the UK. There is a window in September after the England vs India Test series has finished. All the best Indian players would already be there, and all of the best English players would be available as well,” Kevin Pietersen wrote in his column for Betway.
Pietersen further added that mid-to-late September will be the ideal time to stage the IPL due to brilliant weather conditions and also the fact that fans could be allowed to attend the games in the stadium.
Mid-to-late September is the most beautiful time in the UK. They could use Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and the two London grounds. There is also a good chance that crowds will be allowed in the grounds. and there will be great atmospheres. The IPL has been to the UAE; it’s been to South Africa, and I think England would now be the perfect place to house the remaining free.” added the former England captain.
