England’s pace bowler Mark Wood said that he was elated to find conditions suitable to his bowling style in the last two T20I matches he had played against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. England leads 2-1 in the five-match T20I series, winning the first and third matches.

In the two T20I matches India has lost, they had been asked to bat first after Virat Kohli lost the toss. India made below-par scores of 124/7 and 156/6, which England chased down with ease. The same story was repeated in the second T20I match, which India won, as England had batted first, after losing the toss, and then went on to lose the match.

The below-par scores were thanks to England’s two fastest bowlers in Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, both of who have bowled around and over 150 kmph, and it was Archer who wreaked havoc in the first match, picking 3/23 in 4 overs and even bowled one maiden over as well.

In the third T20I, which England won, it was Mark Wood, whose speed proved too hot to handle for Indian batsmen, as he took 3/31 in 4 overs, including castling KL Rahul in the first over itself and then removing the dangerous Rohit Sharma as well.

My Role In The Team Is To Try And Bang It On A Good Length And Make Something Happen: Mark Wood

India had lost their openers for cheap, with KL Rahul enduring one of the worst runs in limited-overs, having scored 1, 0, and 0 in the three matches thus far; and Rohit Sharma, playing his first match of the series got out for 15, both dismissed by Wood, who took full advantage of the pace and bounce provided by the Motera wicket.

“My role in the team is to try and bang it on a good length and make something happen. The two pitches I’ve played on have a bit of bounce and I enjoyed those conditions,” said Wood after the match.

Wood had an excellent outing in the first three over, but Virat Kohli slammed him for 17 runs in his fourth and last over, hitting two sixes and one four. Talking about the same, Wood gave credit to Kohli, who made 77* in 46 balls, for taking him on.

“It’s a shame that I went for runs in the last over, but credit to Virat. He is a fantastic player and is very hard to bowl at and he played some great shots in the end. It’s good to play against great players and test yourself,” added Wood.

The fourth T20I will be played on March 18 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad.
