Former India batter and Chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth claimed that Virat Kohli is the Kings of Kings ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final.

India and South Africa will be featuring in the T20 World Cup 2024 finale at the Kensington Oval in Barbados later today to determine the new champion. A lot of players in the Indian team including Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Hardik Pandya among others will be aiming to win their first-ever T20 WC title.

A golden chance for Team India players

The only player to have won the coveted silverware previously is captain Rohit Sharma, who won the inaugural edition in 2007 as a 20-year-old. He was under MS Dhoni's captaincy when India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in the finale which took place on South African soil. Tonight, the Men in Blue have a chance to add a second T20 WC title against the South Africans.

Moreover, there are only 3 players in the team who have the experience of featuring in an ICC T20 WC final and they are Virat Kohli, Rohit, and Ravindra Jadeja. Players like Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh have all played in a T20 WC semi-final and they will experience their first finale today.

Virat Kohli's underwhelming ICC T20 WC 2024 campaign

Ahead of the IND Vs SA clash, fans are wondering if Virat Kohli, whose bat has remained quiet in the T20 WC so far, will come out all guns blazing or not. Kohli has featured as an opener for the first time at an ICC event but his pairing with skipper Rohit Sharma has not worked out that well.

While Rohit has been scoring runs and leading the charge, Virat Kohli is stuck and getting out while trying to adapt to India's aggressive brand of cricket. From all 7 matches that the Indians have played, Kohli is yet to score a 40, let alone a half-century. His highest score in this tournament is just 34 runs, that too, he scored 2 matches ago in the Super 8s against Bangladesh.

He was expected to score runs in the semi-final against England in Guyana but all Virat Kohli managed to score was 9 runs. He now only has the final to prove his case and his fans think that Kohli will come up with his peak performance later tonight.

What did Krishnamachari Srikkanth say?

While speaking to Star Sports on the eve of the final, Krishnamachari Srikkanth shared his two cents on Virat Kohli's form and performance in the T20 WC. Srikkanth, who picked the 2011 Cricket World Cup-winning Indian squad, claimed that Kohli's failure to get runs under his belt is not a sign of concern.

Krishnamachari Srikkanth admitted that every batsman currently is king until the real kind, Virat Kohli enters the conversation. "There’s no problem with Kohli not having a big score. He’s a king of kings." - Kris Srikkanth said via Star Sports.
