EX-PCB Chief slams Bangladesh for Salman Agha's controversial run out
PC: X

Former PCB Chief Ramiz Raja has slammed the Bangladesh team for the controversial dismissal of Salman Ali Agha in the Second ODI of the series. He has slammed the Bangladesh skipper for lacking a sense of sportsmanship after what he did to run out the Pakistani batter.

Pakistan, after their humiliating exit from yet another ICC tournament in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, are now focusing on revamping its squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2027 to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. They have made many massive changes to their squad.

Despite the changes, Pakistan made a horrific start to the series with a humiliating batting collapse in the first ODI clash. They were bowled out for 114 runs, and Bangladesh, the host side, won the match with ease.

The run-out controversy involving Salman Agha and Bangladesh

In an attempt to bring their campaign back on track, Salman Ali Agha, the all-rounder batter, played a promising innings during the middle overs, which helped Pakistan score some runs with stability after the promising start provided by the young, dynamic opener, Maaz Shadaqat.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the Bangladesh skipper, left no stone unturned to break the partnership between Salman and Mohammad Rizwan. He then finally got the opportunity of his own bowling in the 39th over of the game, but in the form of a run-out chance.

Agha, who looked solid on 64 off 62 balls, was at the non-striker's end when Rizwan played a ball straight towards the batter. He failed to dodge it, and it was stopped by his pads. The batter attempted to pick the ball to help the Bangladesh captain; however, the skipper took the opportunity to grab the ball and run him out, as he was legitimately short of his crease.

The Pakistan batter did not anticipate such a move and was left baffled. He then had some words with the Bangladesh players and left the field. He was seen angrily throwing the gloves and helmet on the ground as he crossed the boundary ropes.

Ramiz Raja's views on the controversial dismissal

During the same incident, Ramiz Raja was part of the commentary panel and kept slamming the Bangladesh team as he cited this against the spirit of the game. He was later part of the discussion panel with experts and commented on the same.

“I come from a different school of thought. Today the game is played differently, teams go for the jugular the moment they see an opportunity! This was outside the sportsmen’s spirit.

"But he was well within his rights to get that run out. The intention here (from Agha) was trying to do a good deed. You never do that to the opposition. Agha’s stern reaction was obvious. The intentions of both players were very different," the former PCB Chief opined.

"One player was trying to run the other out while the second one was trying to be friendly. And there’s no room for friendliness in this contest. I would give Bangladesh a 10 out of 100 for this. They could have done a bit better,” Raja added.

Bangladesh gets a revised target of 243 as per the DLS rule

The Bangla Tigers had lost too many wickets within their first 6 overs as they came out to chase the target of 278 runs. Raza called out the target to be around 20-30 runs less, as the pitch looked battable and the total chasable.

After the rain played a hindrance in the inning, Pakistan's total has been revised to 243 in 32 overs. Litton Das played a sublime hand before being dismissed. It's upon the middle-order Bangladesh batters to bounce back.
