"They Don't Need Us"- Kapil Dev Not Interested In Giving Advice To Rohit Sharma's India

Players and teams as a whole generally look for advice from yesteryear superstars for making plans for events as big as the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. For Team India, the 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev could be a great school of knowledge where they can learn to handle pressure and tackle difficult situations. Indian team has reached the semi-finals of the World Cup.

However, Kapil Dev has refrained from giving any advice to the Indian team players because no one approached him for his advice. He thought that the current batch of Indian players were smart enough to execute their plans and constantly perform well for the nation. Kapil Dev just wants to detach himself and watch the team play.

Talking on TRS Clips, Kapil Dev was questioned whether watching the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team in action at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 makes him nostalgic about his 1983 World Cup campaign. The veteran India all-rounder admitted that he would rather not be in the current Indian team’s shoes nor tell them how to go about the proceedings of the match. It was after that, the 64-year-old revealed that none of the current players from the Indian Cricket Team have ever called him for any help or advice.

“Not really. I don’t want to get into their shoes. I don’t want to tell them ‘play like this, do this or that’. I just want to detach myself and watch them play. No (the current players don’t reach out to me for help). The ones who want to reach but the ones who don’t want to, I can’t force them, they don’t have an obligation to do so. These kids are very smart, they don’t need people like us. We are not better than them. We can only guide them to get better,” he said.

Kapil Dev Praises India’s Bowlers Jasprit Bumrah And Mohammed Shami

Kapil Dev heaps praise for Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah who have played an important role in India’s unbeaten run to the semifinal. Shami has taken 16 wickets in five matches while Bumrah has taken 17 wickets in nine matches.

“I think Shami is extraordinary, Bumrah with his action… hats off to him. I can’t even imagine that someone can be as devastating as him with such a short run-up and unusual action. They have the experience. They just need to keep themselves fit,” Kapil said when asked for advice he would give to Shami, and Bumrah,” Kapil Dev stated.

India will face New Zealand in the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and it will be interesting to see if India will avenge their defeat in the 2019 World Cup or if New Zealand will enter the ODI World Cup finals for the third time on the trot. New Zealand will have to be at their very best this time as India is playing in front of the home crowd.
