Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel believes that the camaraderie between the Indian players in the dressing room is one of the key reasons for their success on the field. The side under Virat Kohli has already scripted some historic wins in the Test arena, and is on their way to become arguably the greatest Indian team.

They have been ruling Test cricket for the past few years – both home and away – and almost always start a limited-overs match as the favourites.

Speaking on the Players Lounge Podcast, Parthiv Patel, who played his last few Tests in this system under Kohli, reckoned that though there are differences in character and background of the players, they share a healthy relationship with each other, and that, he feels, leads to favourable outcomes on the field.

“If you look at the Indian dressing room as of now, you see Ishant Sharma roaming around with Virat Kohli in Delhi. But, you also see Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav, both different characters, move around.

“Rishabh Pant goes out with Hardik Pandya, one is from west, the other is from north. There are a few guys from east I think,” Parthiv Patel said.

“If you look at Dinesh Karthik and Hardik/Krunal Pandya, they are best of friends. One can’t speak English, one can’s speak Hindi and still they get along really well. I think why Indian team is doing really well in this era is because they gel really well together and IPL has to get credit for it as well,” he added.

India should win it 4-0 or 3-1: Sunil Gavaskar

Coming to the ongoing series against England, India have taken a 1-0 lead after a 151-run brilliant victory at Lord’s which followed the draw at Trent Bridge. After India’s spirited comeback at Lord’s, former captain Sunil Gavaskar predicted that the team will return with a 4-0 or a 3-1 scoreline with their first series win on England shores since 2007.

“England is a two-man team. It’s just Joe Root and Jimmy Anderson. With the greatest of respect to all who are playing there, it doesn’t look like a proper Test team…

“That’s why I think India will win the remaining three matches of the series. I had said at the beginning of the series that India should win it 4-0 or 3-1 and I still believe that result is possible if rain doesn’t spoilsport,” Gavaskar told Sony Networks.

The third Test starts on August 25 at Headingley. To strengthen their batting, England have recalled the experienced Dawid Malan, who last played a Test in 2018, and have dropped Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley.
